Experts call for direct bus link from Huanggang Checkpoint to Hong Kong Airport

The soon-to-open revamped Huanggang Port border crossing between Hong Kong and Shenzhen should include a direct bus service to Hong Kong International Airport, experts and lawmakers have suggested. They argue that such a link would capitalize on the checkpoint's strategic location near mainland China's high-speed intercity rail network.

Calls for Enhanced Connectivity

While the government has announced plans to connect seven franchised bus routes and extend six minibus routes to the revamped checkpoint, stakeholders are pushing for more. Timothy Chui Ting-pong, executive director of the Hong Kong Tourism Association, emphasized the need for an airport bus service to maximize the checkpoint's potential. "The revamped Huanggang Port will need an airport bus, as the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Intercity Railway is connected to Shenzhen airport," Chui said.

The intercity railway, which will eventually include a station at Huanggang, offers a unique opportunity for seamless travel. Chui, who also operates a cross-border bus company, highlighted how Hongkongers could use the new crossing to access Shenzhen airport via direct train. Similarly, mainland travelers could use the same route to reach Hong Kong International Airport, boosting tourism and travel efficiency.
