Exiled opposition leader tries to enter Venezuela as Rodriguez me

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado made three unsuccessful attempts in the past 24 hours to return to Venezuela, according to a person with direct knowledge of her plans.

Machado sought to travel from Panama to Venezuela using different routes, the person said.

The efforts included plans to travel by boat, as well as to fly first to the Caribbean islands of Aruba and Curaçao before continuing by sea, according to the same person.

She was unable to complete the journey despite the repeated attempts, the source said.

Rodriguez meets Trump in New York

The attempts came as acting President Delcy Rodriguez visited New York for the United Nations General Assembly.

During that visit, Rodriguez met US President Donald Trump, according to the source material.

The New York talks were described as the first encounter since Nicolas Maduro’s capture.

Colombia’s NTN24 first reported Machado’s attempts earlier Tuesday.

The developments placed Machado’s blocked return effort alongside Rodriguez’s meeting with Trump in the US, with both events unfolding around the UN General Assembly visit.
