Davangere University to Introduce Skill-Based Courses This Academic Year

Davangere University has announced plans to introduce a range of skill-based postgraduate diploma and certificate courses starting this academic year. The initiative aims to equip students with specialised knowledge and practical skills to enhance employability and foster entrepreneurship, Vice-Chancellor B.E. Rangaswamy revealed during a press briefing in Davangere on Tuesday.

Multidisciplinary and Vocational Focus

Highlighting the university's emphasis on multidisciplinary education, Rangaswamy stated that the new programmes are designed to provide vocational, skill-oriented, and employment-generating opportunities. "The focus is on preparing students not just for jobs but also for self-employment, enabling them to create employment opportunities for others," he said.

The university has already rolled out postgraduate diploma courses in cyber security, financial services, data analysis, food processing, and safety and quality management. Additionally, diploma and certificate courses in yoga are now available. Plans are underway to expand skill-based practical education across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in commerce, science, social sciences, and education.

Collaborations to Boost Opportunities

To support its entrepreneurial vision, Davangere University has entered into partnerships with several national and international organisations and companies. These collaborations aim to provide students with practical exposure and resources to transition smoothly into employment or entrepreneurial ventures.

Extended Admission Deadline for PG Courses

In response to requests from students and college principals, the university has extended the application deadline for postgraduate courses from July 31 to August 10. Admissions are open for programmes such as MA, MCom, MSc, MEd, MFA, MSW, and MCA.

Strengthening Research and Infrastructure

Rangaswamy also underscored the university's commitment to advancing research. Agreements with multiple institutions have been signed to bolster research collaborations and elevate the institution's academic standards.

Davangere University currently boasts 129 full-time faculty members, well-equipped laboratories, digital library facilities, student hostels, and career guidance services. It offers 30 postgraduate programmes across its Shivagangotri campus in Davangere and the Postgraduate Centre at Guddada Rangavvanahalli in Chitradurga district.

This strategic move by Davangere University reflects its dedication to aligning education with industry demands and fostering innovation among students.
