Congress Leaders Urge Protection of Constitutional Values on Quit India Anniversary

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud has called upon Congress workers to draw inspiration from the Quit India Movement to protect India's Constitution, democracy, secularism, and social justice. Speaking at a programme commemorating the 84th anniversary of the historic movement at Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday, Goud emphasised the relevance of the freedom struggle’s ideals in contemporary times.

Tribute to Freedom Fighters and Their Sacrifices

The event, jointly organised by the Telangana Pradesh Congress Seva Dal, Gandhi Global Family, and Gandhi Gyan Pratishthan, paid homage to the sacrifices of freedom fighters. Goud recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s famous “Do or Die” call on August 8, 1942, which he described as a pivotal moment in India’s fight against British colonial rule. He highlighted how the movement united people across the country and inspired millions to join the struggle for independence.

Goud underlined the enduring significance of the contributions made by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, alongside countless others who faced imprisonment, police repression, and even death for the nation’s freedom. He stressed that while previous generations fought against colonial rule, the current generation bears the responsibility of safeguarding constitutional values and democratic institutions.

Call to Protect Fundamental Rights

“The Constitution is the guiding force of our nation, democracy is its strength, and secularism is the foundation of India’s unity,” Goud stated, urging citizens to protect fundamental rights such as freedom of expression, equality, social justice, religious freedom, and civil liberties. He encouraged Congress workers to engage with communities at the grassroots level, address public concerns, and raise awareness about constitutional rights.

Exhibition Highlights Gandhi’s Legacy

A major highlight of the celebrations was a large-scale exhibition showcasing Mahatma Gandhi’s life and legacy. Featuring 1,500 statues of Gandhi and 150 charkhas, the exhibition symbolised Gandhi’s pivotal role in the freedom movement. A special visual presentation and a giant charkha installation drew enthusiastic responses from attendees, including senior Congress leaders and visitors.

Expanding Grassroots Outreach

Goud also praised Telangana Pradesh Congress Seva Dal president Middela Jitender for his efforts and called for expanding the organisation’s presence across villages, mandals, and constituencies in Telangana. The programme was attended by prominent figures such as Gandhi Global Family chairman Gunna Rajender Reddy and several state ministers, who visited the exhibition and participated in the commemorative activities.

The event served as a reminder of the Congress party’s historical role in India’s freedom struggle and its ongoing commitment to upholding the nation’s constitutional values.
