Congress demands FIR against UP Speaker for allegedly disrespecting national anthem

Congress workers in Shravasti district staged a peaceful protest at Bhinga police station demanding an FIR against Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana for alleged disrespect to the national anthem. The demonstration, held under the leadership of district Congress president Vidyamani Tripathi, followed directives from the state party leadership.

The incident that sparked the protest involved Mahana reportedly driving away in his vehicle while the national anthem was being played. A Congress delegation submitted a written complaint at the Bhinga police station seeking legal action against the Speaker for what they termed a constitutional violation. The party representatives argued that such conduct from a person holding a high constitutional post is unacceptable and does not align with constitutional proprieties.

Addressing the gathering, Congress workers emphasized that the national anthem represents the nation's identity, self-respect, and national pride. They stated that the Congress party remains firmly committed to protecting the Constitution and upholding national honor. The protesters stressed that disrespecting the national anthem, particularly by someone in a position of constitutional authority, sets a poor precedent and cannot be overlooked.

The demonstration saw participation from several senior district Congress functionaries including district vice president Mohammad Aslam Khan, MGNREGA in-charge Advocate Aman Pandey, district general secretary Ehsan Chaudhary, block president Thakur Tiwari, Advocate Hemant Kumar Pathak, and district vice president Chandrapal Singh Yadav, along with numerous party workers. The protesters maintained a peaceful and democratic approach throughout the demonstration while demanding swift legal proceedings in the matter.

The incident has once again brought the issue of respect for national symbols to the forefront of political discourse in Uttar Pradesh.
