Collector inspects dengue prevention drive ahead of monsoon in Cuddalore

Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar carried out field inspections in Cuddalore Corporation areas, visiting households in Sellankuppam and Semmandalam to review mosquito-control efforts being implemented ahead of the Northeast monsoon.

Health Department steps up surveillance

During the inspection, the Collector examined measures being taken to prevent mosquito breeding and said the Health Department and local bodies were carrying out preventive measures across Cuddalore district to check for transmission of dengue.

He warned that rainwater stagnation in discarded coconut shells, plastic containers, unused vehicle tyres, and other waste materials could create breeding grounds for dengue mosquitoes. Preventing mosquito breeding was the most effective way to control dengue, he said.

Advisory issued to residents

The Collector advised residents to remove unwanted objects in which rainwater could collect, prevent water stagnation in household articles, and clean overhead water tanks at least once a week. People should keep their homes and surroundings clean and strictly follow dengue-awareness instructions, he said.

Treatment facilities expanded

Special wards were set up in all government hospitals as a precautionary measure to treat dengue patients. A total of 116 patients has been undergoing treatment for dengue so far. Of them, around 60% are people working in other districts and college students, the Collector said.
