CJP threatens ‘Jantar Mantar 2.0’ if CEC Gyanesh Kumar does not r

The Cockroach Janta Party has given Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar a 48-hour deadline to resign, warning that it will launch a nationwide protest and then bring the agitation to Delhi if he does not step down.

CJP made the demand on Thursday, September 24, 2026, accusing the CEC of “undermining” voter rights and saying his resignation was necessary “to ensure free and fair elections.”

Speaking at a press conference in Delhi, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke alleged that the electoral process had been “rigged” and that citizens’ right to vote was being taken away.

“If Gyanesh Kumar does not resign within 48 hours, we will start a nationwide protest, before coming for a protest in Delhi,” Mr. Dipke said.

He added that if the CEC does not resign, “Jantar Mantar 2.0 will definitely happen”.

CJP links resignation demand to voter rights

Mr. Dipke framed the demand around the right to vote, saying, “Who is Gyanesh Kumar to revoke our right to vote... we should all come forward.”

He also said that the youth should come forward to save the nation.

At the press conference, CJP co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka set out three demands relating to the conduct of recent elections and the Special Intensive Revision by the Election Commission.

The first demand, Mr. Ranka said, was the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the immediate initiation of criminal proceedings against him.

“Our first demand is the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and initiation of criminal proceedings against him immediately,” he said.

CJP’s second demand was that all upcoming elections should be immediately halted and that pre-SIR voter rolls should be restored for all States.

Mr. Ranka stated this while speaking about the party’s second demand at the press conference.

Party seeks inquiry into SIR process

Mr. Ranka also demanded that an independent inquiry commission be constituted to examine all proceedings of the SIR so far.

He said the Supreme Court should seize all files related to decision-making on SIR before they are destroyed by the Election Commission.

“Independent inquiry commission should be constituted which will look into all proceedings of SIR so far. Supreme Court should seize all files related to decision making of SIR before they are destroyed by EC,” Mr. Ranka said.

CJP’s third demand was the repeal of the 2023 Act for appointments of the CEC and other election commissioners.

Mr. Ranka said there should be a new law for such appointments and that it should involve civil society groups.

“There should be a new law for it which involves the civil society groups,” he said.

Opposition parties urged to take a stand

Mr. Dipke also said Opposition parties should take a stand against election rigging.

Addressing the Opposition parties, he said, “if you know the election is rigged you should take a stand, you cannot both participate in the election and speak against rigging.”

The remarks were made a day after The Indian Express revealed that questions had repeatedly been raised within the three-member Election Commission on issues related to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

According to that report, two of the three election commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, had raised questions on issues related to the SIR.
