Chinese Fugitive Arrested After Dead Twin Identity Ruse Exposed by Ex-Girlfriend

A Chinese fugitive who had posed as his deceased twin brother for 19 years was recently arrested after his late brother’s ex-girlfriend identified him.

At the time of his arrest, Chen was leading an ordinary life under a false name and was confident that his ruse would keep him hidden.

Robbery case went cold

The case dates back to a robbery in 2002 in Yuhuan, in eastern China’s Zhejiang province.

Seven suspects abducted the victim and robbed him of cash and valuables.

Local police quickly arrested six of the suspects, but the seventh suspect, surnamed Chen, escaped.

Police carried out an extensive search for Chen but failed to find him.

The case eventually went cold, leaving Chen’s whereabouts unknown until his identification by his deceased brother’s ex-girlfriend.

Identification led to arrest

Chen’s arrest followed the discovery that he had been living under his dead twin brother’s identity for nearly two decades.

The development is linked to the original robbery because Chen was the seventh suspect who escaped after the other six suspects were arrested.

At his arrest, police found that he had maintained an ordinary life while using a false name and relying on the identity of his deceased twin brother.
