Chandigarh: ₹8 Lakh Turkish Pistol Used in Cashier's Murder; Police

A Turkish-made Zigana pistol, priced at ₹8 lakh in the international market, was used in the fatal shooting of cashier Janaki Das at Shri Kumar Medical Store in Chandigarh's Sector-11. This marks the first known use of this weapon in a crime in Chandigarh. The same pistol model was previously linked to high-profile cases, including the murders of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and Mumbai's Baba Siddiqui.

Police investigations have identified the suspects as residents of Rajouri district in Jammu & Kashmir. Teams from Chandigarh's Operation Cell, Crime Branch, and District Crime Cell have been dispatched to Rajouri to apprehend the accused. Authorities are also probing potential connections between the shooters and gangster networks in Punjab.

The murder, which occurred on Saturday, was claimed by the Goldy Dhillon gang, though police have not confirmed this. Following the incident, security measures in the area have been heightened. Police personnel have been stationed at Shri Kumar Medical Store and two other nearby chemist shops—Mahadev Medical Store and Durga Medical—after threats were reported.

To ensure safety, barricades have been set up on the main road near the medical stores, with vehicle checks being conducted. CRPF personnel have also been deployed alongside local police to strengthen security.

Chandigarh DGP Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda is personally monitoring the investigation. Under his directives, multiple police units are collaborating to expedite the arrest of the suspects.
