Karnataka gets its second woman Governor with appointment of Sudha Yadav

Senior BJP leader Sudha Yadav was named Karnataka’s next Governor on Monday by President Droupadi Murmu.

She will be the second woman to hold the post in the State, after V.S. Rama Devi.

Karnataka was one of the six states to which gubernatorial appointments were announced on Monday.

The incumbent, ThaawarChand Gehlot, had been Governor since July 21, 2021.

Yadav’s political and public record

Yadav has served as a member of the BJP’s Parliamentary Board, the highest decision-making body of the party.

She hails from Haryana.

She had earlier served as an MP representing Mahendragarh between 1999-2004.

Yadav had also served as a member of the National Commission for Backward Classes earlier.

Her academic qualifications include a postgraduate degree in Chemistry and a PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.

Second woman to hold the post

The first woman Governor, V.S. Rama Devi, served from 1999 to 2002.

Yadav’s appointment means Karnataka will next have its second woman Governor.

She is the wife of a Kargil martyr, Deputy Commandant Sukhbir Singh Yadav.
