BJP chief Nitin Nabin donates three months' salary to Bihar flood relief fund

Bhartiya Janata Party National President Nitin Nabin has contributed ₹6.35 lakh, equivalent to his three months' earnings as a Rajya Sabha member, to the Bihar Chief Minister's Relief Fund for families displaced and affected by this year's devastating floods.

The donation was announced on Friday (September 18, 2026), as Bihar continues to grapple with the aftermath of flooding that swept through 15 districts and impacted approximately 50 lakh people. The deluge was triggered by heavy rain and flash floods in rivers originating from neighbouring Nepal.

Commitment amid ongoing relief operations

Nabin, a five-time BJP MLA from Bankipur constituency in Patna district, made the contribution despite acknowledging that "all possible assistance is being provided to the affected families through financial aid, relief camps and assessment of crop damage". He emphasised that "the entire government stands firmly with the people during this crisis".

Expressing his personal commitment, Nabin stated that he "stands fully committed to all flood-affected families in Bihar". He noted that the State government has already disbursed ₹550 crore in direct financial assistance, transferring ₹7,000 to each flood-affected family. The process of assessing crop damage and extending necessary support to farmers is currently underway, he added.

Scale of destruction prompts central intervention

The extent of the disaster drew Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to the affected regions recently, where he conducted field assessments alongside Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and senior State officials. "Flood in Bihar this time has made extensive damage to life, property, crop production and even to cattle and their livestock and I would talk to the central government for adequate relief to the affected population," Chouhan told media persons during his visit.

Relief infrastructure and water levels

To manage the humanitarian crisis, the State government established over 1,000 community kitchens, multiple relief camps, and deployed several teams from the National and State Disaster Response Forces across flood-affected districts. In a positive development, flood water in major rivers including the Ganga, Gandak and Kosi has begun receding at various locations, including Patna district, bringing relief to affected populations.

Chief Minister Choudhary had earlier undertaken several aerial surveys of the flood-hit areas to oversee and expedite relief and rescue operations.
