Bihar CM launches Heli-Tourism scheme to enhance state tourism

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday unveiled the Bihar Heli-Tourism and Air Tourism Service Scheme 2026, aiming to position the state as a global tourism destination. The initiative, launched at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, promises affordable air travel to key tourist sites and marks a significant step in promoting Bihar’s cultural and natural heritage.

Subsidised Helicopter Services to Key Destinations

Under the scheme, helicopter services will connect Patna with popular tourist spots such as Rajgir, Valmikinagar, and Kaimur. These subsidised flights, scheduled to begin on July 18, will run every Saturday and Sunday. The state government will provide a subsidy of up to ₹15,422 per ticket to make the service accessible to a broader audience.

Additionally, a 10-minute helicopter ride over Patna has been introduced for ₹2,100 per person. This ride offers panoramic views of iconic landmarks, including the Ganga River, JP Ganga Path, and Takht Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib. Flights will operate after 3 pm on weekends, with four trips scheduled at 30-minute intervals. Each helicopter can accommodate up to five passengers.

Expanding Tourism to Valmikinagar, Rajgir, and Kaimur

The scheme also includes a 20-seater aircraft service to the Valmikinagar Tiger Reserve, priced at ₹5,000 per passenger for a one-way trip. Helicopter services to Rajgir and Kaimur, two of Bihar’s most visited destinations, have been priced at ₹4,000 and ₹6,000 per passenger, respectively.

Aiming for the Global Tourism Map

Speaking at the launch, Choudhary emphasised Bihar’s transformation from a historical and religious hub to a modern tourism destination. He highlighted the state’s rich heritage, including its connections to Lord Buddha, Lord Mahavira, and the ancient Magadh Empire, as well as the globally renowned Nalanda University. “The goal is to establish Bihar on the world tourism map,” he said, underscoring the government’s commitment to showcasing the state’s historical, cultural, and natural treasures to both domestic and international tourists.

This ambitious initiative is expected to not only boost tourism but also create new economic opportunities for the region. With its focus on affordability and accessibility, the scheme is a step toward redefining Bihar’s image and attracting a diverse range of visitors.
