Bihar Must Be Self-Reliant, Generate Own Resources: CM

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary emphasized the need for the state to achieve economic self-reliance by generating its own resources. Speaking on Thursday, he stated that his government’s priority is to create income streams capable of funding the state budget independently.

Currently, Bihar relies heavily on central taxes and assistance, which contribute Rs 2.90 lakh crore out of the total Rs 3.47 lakh crore budget. To address this dependency, the CM announced plans to launch ‘Sahyog Shivirs’ in panchayats on the last Sunday of every month. These camps aim to resolve citizens' grievances at their doorstep.

The announcement was made during the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sammelan’ held at Piplava near Naubatpur in Patna district, marking 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. During his address, the CM noted that even former US President Donald Trump had praised the PM recently.

Highlighting the BJP’s leadership, Choudhary expressed pride in having the country’s longest-serving prime minister from his party. He also urged BJP workers to actively participate in the Sahyog Shivirs and ensure timely resolution of public grievances.

Outlining a development strategy, the CM detailed plans to divide the state budget into three parts: 33% for maintaining assets and infrastructure, 33% for social welfare schemes, and the remaining 33% for revenue generation through public-private partnerships (PPP) by inviting private players. He pointed out inefficiencies in the use of government guest houses, noting that only 4.5% of around 1,000 such facilities—including 400 under the irrigation department and 350 under the Public Works Department—are currently in use.
