World Heart Day was observed in Bahraich on Tuesday with a seminar, screening health camps, a signature campaign and public awareness programmes under the National Programme NP-NCD being run under the National Health Mission.

The programmes were held at the Chief Medical Officer’s office, the District Hospital and all health units across the district. Health screening camps, a signature campaign and awareness activities were organised as part of the observance. This year, World Heart Day was marked on the theme “Don’t Miss A Beat”.

At the CMO office, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sanjay Kumar began the programme with the signature campaign. Speaking on the occasion, he said heart-related diseases are increasing because of disturbed daily routines, stress, wrong eating habits, pollution and other reasons. He said the problem is now becoming common among people from a young age to the elderly.

Dr. Sanjay Kumar said that the most important steps for keeping the heart healthy are the right diet and a stress-free life. He underlined that changes in everyday lifestyle have become necessary because heart health is closely linked to routine, food habits and mental well-being.

Dr. Sandeep Mishra, nodal officer of the NCD programme, said it is very important to take care of the heart. He said most deaths are caused by heart-related problems. For a healthy heart, he advised people to exercise regularly, take less stress, stay away from smoking, eat good and balanced food, and live a disciplined life.

Dr. Paritosh Tiwari said prevention is better than treatment. He said that if people honestly want to protect themselves from heart disease, they should start changing their lifestyle from now. He also said sitting continuously in one place for six hours can become a cause of heart disease, and that it is equal to smoking a packet of cigarettes.

Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. S K Verma told the people present that heart disease is a serious illness across the world. He said heart diseases can be prevented by following a proper daily routine and getting regular check-ups done. He said people should keep their Body Mass Index between 18.5 and 24.9.

Dr. S K Verma further said that the treatment for heart disease is prevention, and the simplest way of prevention is making the right changes in lifestyle. He stressed that people must focus on timely screening, healthier habits and discipline in daily life to reduce the risk of heart-related problems.

District Health Education Information Officer Brijesh Singh spoke in detail about heart diseases and said stress is the biggest enemy of the heart. He said that in today’s fast-paced lifestyle, stress has increased a lot among people. Because of this, it may be difficult to completely avoid the disease, but people should stay away from stress as much as possible.

Brijesh Singh said that the chemicals released from the brain due to stress damage the entire system of the heart. He explained that the heart is an organ of the body that pumps continuously and regulates blood flow throughout the body.

He said the heart is at the centre of the circulatory system, and blood vessels such as arteries and veins carry impure blood from every part of the body to the heart and carry pure blood from the heart to every part of the body. Through this explanation, he highlighted the importance of protecting heart health through awareness and preventive care.

On this occasion, a screening camp was organised at the District NCD Clinic. Screening was done for high blood pressure, diabetes and other diseases.

Those present at the programme included Additional Chief Medical Officer Dr. Rajesh Gautam, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anurag Verma, Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. S K Verma, Dr. Paritosh Tiwari, Dr. Vijit Jaiswal, Dr. Anshuman Singh Shrinetra, Dr. Aaqib, FLC Vivek Srivastava from the NCD cell, DEO Mohammad Haroon, Mohammad Fahim, NCD Clinic physiotherapist Dr. Riyazul Haq, Puneet Sharma, Santosh Singh, Nursing Officer Brij Prakash, Swati, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer Mukesh Hans from the Mental Health programme, Harish Kumar, Ajay Pratap Singh, Seema Kumari and Manish Singh, among others.
