The State government has approved the proposed police Commissionerate headquartered at Rajamahendravaram and directed Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta to begin reorganising the existing posts for the new setup.

The approval formalises the next step towards creating a separate Commissionerate structure in Rajamahendravaram.

Commissionerate to be headed by senior police officer

The permission was issued through G.O.No. 198 on October 5, according to Principal Secretary to the government Kumar Vishwajeet.

“The permission has been accorded to the DGP for the establishment of Rajamahendravaram Police Commissionerate, headed by a Commissioner of Police in the rank of Inspector General of Police/Deputy IGP with executive magistrate powers”.

The proposed Commissionerate will be headquartered at Rajamahendravaram and will comprise three territorial zones.

Its jurisdiction will be coterminous with the existing East Godavari revenue district and East Godavari Police District, Mr. Kumar Viswajeet stated.

The current Superintendent of Police will be designated as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) under the new arrangement.
