Anbumani Ramadoss seeks speedy probe in Gem Granites Veeramani PO

PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss has asked that the investigation into the POCSO Act case involving Gem Granites founder R. Veeramani be expedited, while demanding stringent action against everyone involved in the alleged sexual abuse of minor girls from poor families in Chennai.

In a statement on Thursday (September 24, 20266), Dr. Anbumani said reports emerging in connection with the case involving the businessman were shocking.

Call for action under POCSO Act

Dr. Anbumani alleged that attempts had earlier been made to protect those involved, even though evidence of sexual abuse was available.

He said all those involved in the alleged abuse should face stringent action, irrespective of their status.

He also said that, if required, the sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act should be altered based on the findings of the investigation.

The PMK president said those who allegedly assisted in the abuse must also be brought before the law.

He added that those who attempted to close the case should also face legal action.

Dr. Anbumani said separate cases should be registered, if necessary, and the investigation should be expedited.

Reference to evidence and court proceedings

According to Dr. Anbumani, evidence in the case had been submitted to the police on October 6, 2025.

He said a petition seeking permission to close the case for lack of sufficient evidence was filed before the Chennai POCSO Special Court on February 18.

Dr. Anbumani appreciated the court for its approach towards ensuring justice for the affected children.

His statement placed the demand for a faster investigation alongside a call to proceed against not only those allegedly involved in the abuse, but also those accused of assisting it or trying to close the case.

Separate statement on paddy procurement

In a separate statement, Dr. Anbumani urged the Tamil Nadu government to immediately procure the more than six lakh bags of paddy reportedly lying at procurement centres in Cauvery delta districts, including Tiruvarur and Thanjavur.

He said delays in transporting procured paddy were affecting procurement.

He also said a shortage of workers was affecting procurement.

Dr. Anbumani warned that forecast rain could cause losses to farmers.

The paddy procurement appeal was made separately from his statement on the POCSO Act case, but both statements pressed for immediate official action on issues he said required urgent attention.
