Akhilesh Yadav donates ₹2 lakh to support AU Moot Court team

Prayagraj: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has provided financial assistance of ₹2 lakh to two law students from Allahabad University, enabling their participation in the prestigious 18th Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland. The funds were handed over to the students by former Allahabad University Students’ Union vice-president Adil Hamza on Thursday.

The students, Ananya Mishra and Abhishek Maurya, who are pursuing a BA LLB (Hons) degree, earned global recognition for their institution by securing a spot among the top 24 teams worldwide in the competition. According to Prof. Adesh Kumar, Dean of the Faculty of Law, the team initially made it to the top 50 teams globally based on their memorial submissions, with only 13 teams from Asia making the cut.

The duo further cemented their position through four virtual oral rounds, advancing to the in-person advanced world rounds scheduled to take place at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva from July 13 to 17. However, financial constraints had jeopardized their ability to attend the event, despite efforts to secure adequate funding from various sources.

Hamza brought the students’ achievements and financial challenges to Akhilesh Yadav’s attention, prompting the former chief minister to approve the ₹2 lakh assistance to support their travel and participation.
