Akhilesh Yadav to Visit Rampur, Meet Jailed Azam Khan

Political activity is set to intensify in Rampur as Samajwadi Party national president and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will visit the district on 22 October. His one-day visit has led both the party organisation and the district administration to speed up preparations.

According to the programme details, Akhilesh Yadav’s helicopter will land at the helipad of Mohammed Ali Jauhar University at 12:30 p.m. on 22 October. The university has been the dream project of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan. Akhilesh Yadav’s decision to land there is also being viewed as politically significant.

After getting off the helicopter, Akhilesh Yadav will leave directly for Rampur District Jail. At 12:45 p.m., he is scheduled to meet Mohammed Azam Khan, a prominent Samajwadi Party leader and former Rampur MP, who is lodged in the district jail.

The meeting is expected to continue for around half an hour. After leaving the jail, Akhilesh Yadav will go to Azam Khan’s residence.

At the residence, he will meet Azam Khan’s wife, Tanzeen Fatima, and their son, Adeeb Khan. It is being considered that discussions during the meeting may focus on the current situation of Azam Khan’s family and the upcoming strategy.

The visit is being seen as an effort to consolidate the Samajwadi Party’s Muslim-Yadav vote bank ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. It is also being viewed as a show of solidarity with the Azam Khan family.

Azam Khan has been in jail for a long time, and Samajwadi Party workers are said to be enthusiastic about Akhilesh Yadav’s visit to Rampur. The party’s district president said that workers would welcome Akhilesh Yadav from Jauhar University all the way to the jail.

The police administration has also issued an alert regarding security arrangements for the visit. Preparations are being made for the movement of Akhilesh Yadav’s convoy from Jauhar University to the district jail.

The visit has brought fresh attention to the political situation in Rampur. After Akhilesh Yadav’s programme, discussions about the possibility of new political equations in the district have intensified.
