5,000 runners mark hundred years of Central Gurudwara Sahib in Hyderabad

More than 5,000 runners and walkers turned out Sunday morning at HMDA Grounds in Hyderabad for a centenary marathon marking a hundred years since the founding of Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda.

The event, organised under the theme 'Run for Faith, Run for Sewa', offered 3K and 5K runs alongside a Family Walkathon that drew children, youngsters, families and senior citizens from across Telangana. After a warm-up and Zumba session, prominent Sikh personalities flagged off the runs. The 3K participants headed towards People's Plaza while the 5K contingent continued to Jal Vihar.

A Century of Community Service

Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda was founded in 1926 and has served as an important centre of spiritual, cultural and community activity for Hyderabad's Sikh community. The institution is now celebrating its centenary under the theme 'One Family, One Panth, One Sangat, One Community and One Historic Celebration'.

The year-long observance includes a series of religious, cultural and community programmes. September will see an Akhand Path Sahib—the continuous recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib—a Kirtan Darbar featuring devotional music, and Amrit Sanchar, the Sikh initiation ceremony.

Sunday's marathon reflected the gurudwara's enduring role in bringing together Hyderabad's Sikh community and the wider public through service and shared cultural expression, sustaining a tradition that began nearly a century ago in Gowliguda.
