231 cadets, including first NDA women, commissioned in IAF

In a landmark event at the Air Force Academy, Dundigal, Hyderabad, 231 Flight Cadets were commissioned as officers in the Indian Air Force (IAF) on June 13, 2026. Among them were 37 women, including the first-ever batch of female cadets from the National Defence Academy (NDA). Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh reviewed the Combined Graduation Parade of the 217 Course and conferred the 'President's Commission' upon the graduating cadets.

The ceremony also saw nine officers from the Indian Navy, three from the Indian Coast Guard, and two from Vietnam receiving their 'Wings,' while three officers were awarded 'Brevets' for completing navigation training. Addressing the cadets, Singh highlighted the IAF's role as both a shield and sword for the nation, citing its historic contributions in wars and recent operations like Operation Sindoor in 2025.

He urged the officers to remain vigilant to emerging challenges and adapt to modern warfare technologies such as drones, satellites, and robotics. Singh emphasized the importance of innovation and smart strategies to maintain a decisive edge in future conflicts. Special congratulations were extended to the women officers, with Singh stating that their growing presence strengthens the IAF's inclusivity and balance.

The event featured a spectacular flypast showcasing trainer aircraft, aerobatic displays by Su-30 MKI and Suryakiran teams, and performances by the Akash Ganga and Shakti drill teams. Awards were presented to top-performing cadets, including Flying Officer Ashish Kumar Yadav, Ekta Gupta, and Divyanshi Singh. The ceremony marked the beginning of a distinguished journey for the newly commissioned officers, who pledged to uphold the sovereignty and honor of the nation.
