A job fair was organised on the second day of the ongoing Seer festival in Ghumarwin, Bilaspur district, Himachal Pradesh, with more than 16 companies taking part. More than 400 young people appeared for interviews before representatives of different companies. Around 200 candidates were selected for employment, while the remaining applicants were called to the head offices of the concerned companies for interviews in the next stage of the selection process.

The job fair was organised by the Labour and Employment Department in association with BBNI. It provided local youth with an opportunity to directly interact with companies and appear for interviews for available employment opportunities.

Final-year students of ITI Ghumarwin also took part in the job fair along with other local youth. These students appeared for interviews before company representatives for employment and internship opportunities. Through their participation, the students also got practical experience of the actual recruitment process.

Himachal Pradesh Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani was specially present at the event. Speaking about the organisation of the job fair, he said that one of the major challenges in providing employment to young people is the skill gap between the requirements of industries and the skills available among the human resources seeking jobs.

Rajesh Dharmani said the government is giving special attention to training young people according to the requirements of industries so that this gap can be reduced. He said that aligning the skills of the youth with the changing needs of companies would help connect more young people with employment opportunities.

The minister also said that short-term skill training programmes would soon be started under the Prime Minister’s Skill Development Scheme for green jobs in emerging sectors such as tourism and hospitality and EV technology.

In addition, the Skill Academy announced in the budget would also be started soon, he said. Through this academy, young people holding degrees and diplomas would get an opportunity to improve their employment-related abilities through finishing courses.

The minister further said that the budget has announced the establishment of a modern Skill Development Academy in the Ghumarwin Assembly constituency. Special courses would be started at the academy in modern and in-demand fields such as artificial intelligence, digital marketing, data analytics and information technology.

During the job fair, Rajesh Dharmani also launched the Meel app with the aim of connecting young people with industries. The digital platform will work as an effective bridge between students and industries. It will help students find employment, internships and other career opportunities according to their qualifications, skills and interests.

Students will be able to register on the app free of cost. They will be able to enter details about their educational qualifications, technical and other skills, experience, interests and career-related preferences.

The launch of the app at the job fair is intended to make it easier for students to share their details with industries and identify opportunities that match their background and career priorities. The event brought companies, local youth and students of ITI Ghumarwin together at the Seer festival, while also focusing attention on skill development and employment-oriented training.
