The fifth day of the seven-day National Service Scheme (NSS) camp organised at Government Senior Secondary School Rishikesh in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, focused on creating awareness about cybercrime, cyber security and cleanliness. Computer Science lecturer Abdul Majid participated as the resource person and explained important ways for volunteers to protect themselves from cybercrime.

The day began with a morning awareness march. Through the march, the NSS volunteers conveyed a message of awareness. After this, the students took part in light exercise and yoga practice. These activities encouraged them to remain physically and mentally healthy.

During the camp programme, Computer Science lecturer Abdul Majid addressed the volunteers on the need to stay alert while using the internet and smartphones. He said that although the use of the internet and smartphones is highly convenient in the digital age, it is equally important to remain aware of their safe use.

Abdul Majid informed the students about different types of cybercrime. He explained the risks related to online fraud, fake calls, suspicious links, phishing and crimes taking place on social media. He also told them that they should not share OTPs, passwords, bank-related information or any other personal details with unknown people.

The students were advised to protect their privacy while using social media. Abdul Majid also stressed that they must avoid clicking on unknown links, as such links can be connected with online fraud and other cybercrime-related risks.

He advised the volunteers to create strong passwords and adopt two-factor authentication. He further asked them to remain alert about any suspicious online activity and to take care while using digital platforms.

Abdul Majid said that cyber security is not only a technical subject but also the responsibility of every internet user. He explained that awareness and caution can help people avoid cybercrime to a considerable extent.

After the cyber security session, the NSS volunteers conducted a cleanliness campaign in their adopted village, Damli, under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The volunteers cleaned different places in the village and made the rural residents aware of the importance of cleanliness. They also gave the message of maintaining a clean environment.

In the evening, various sports competitions and recreational activities were organised for the physical development and entertainment of the volunteers. The students participated in these activities with enthusiasm.
