Yogi orders 48-hour relief push for flood-hit Chitrakoot families

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered officials to complete the distribution of relief kits to flood-affected families in Chitrakoot within 48 hours and ensure crop and house damage surveys are expedited so eligible residents receive compensation under existing rules.

After returning from a visit to the heavy rainfall-affected Chitrakoot district, the Chief Minister held a review meeting with senior officials on September 06, 2026, to assess relief and rehabilitation operations.

Survey and compensation directives

"The survey of crop damage suffered by farmers affected by the floods should be completed at the earliest and eligible farmers should be provided compensation in accordance with rules," Yogi Adityanath said. He directed that families whose houses have been completely damaged should receive benefits under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, while financial assistance should be provided for the repair of partially damaged houses.

The Chief Minister also ordered assessments of losses suffered by traders and maths-temples of Chitrakoot Dham, stating that special arrangements should be made to provide assistance and compensation to affected traders. "Damage suffered by maths and temples should also be surveyed, and repair work should be commenced at the earliest. The government will extend necessary support for the preservation of these religious and cultural sites," he said.

Health and sanitation measures

Yogi Adityanath instructed that Health Department teams should remain continuously available in flood-affected areas to provide necessary medical assistance on time. He noted that the possibility of infectious disease spread increases after floodwaters recede, directing that special attention be paid to cleanliness, safe drinking water, and essential health arrangements. Under the leadership of the Chief Medical Officer, teams should maintain continuous monitoring and ensure immediate treatment if symptoms of any disease emerge.

River encroachment and infrastructure

The Chief Minister directed officials to identify and remove encroachments in the catchment area of the Mandakini River in accordance with rules, after consultations with district officials, public representatives, and local citizens. He instructed that under no circumstances should sewer or drain water flow into the Mandakini, requiring the Tourism, Irrigation, and Urban Development Departments to prepare and implement a concrete action plan through mutual coordination.

A safety audit of the foot over bridge built over the Mandakini River should be conducted, with immediate corrective action taken wherever necessary, he said. The Chief Minister also reviewed construction work of the road from Chitrakoot Dham to the airport, directing that it must be completed before Vijayadashami.

He instructed officials to prepare a long-term action plan for Chitrakoot that can reduce losses from excessive rainfall and floods in the future, with special attention to the natural flow of the Mandakini, the catchment area, encroachments, drainage, and other necessary arrangements.
