Uttar Pradesh's Dairy Expansion Creates Over 2.25 Lakh Jobs

The Uttar Pradesh government announced on Thursday that its Dairy Development Department has facilitated the creation of over 2.25 lakh employment opportunities through the establishment of nearly 5,000 cooperative societies across the state. These efforts are part of the Nand Baba Dugdh Mission, a flagship initiative of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath aimed at boosting rural livelihoods.

U.P. Leads India in Milk Production
In the financial year 2024-25, India produced a record 248 million metric tons of milk, cementing its position as the largest milk-producing nation globally. Uttar Pradesh contributed a significant 38.8 million metric tons, accounting for 16% of the national output, making it the top milk-producing state in the country.

Rural Livelihoods and Direct Benefits
The Dairy Development Department’s initiatives have directly benefited 17,994 individuals, according to Dairy Commissioner Dhanalakshmi K. These efforts are particularly impactful in rural areas, where employment opportunities in the dairy sector play a vital role in sustaining livelihoods.

Investment and Modernization
The state has also attracted substantial investment in the dairy sector, with Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth over ₹28,000 crore signed with various stakeholders. To further strengthen the sector, the department organized a one-day district-level Dairy Conclave-2026 across all 75 districts on August 5. The conclave aimed to raise awareness about public welfare initiatives, modern technologies, and scientific livestock management practices.

The concerted efforts of the Uttar Pradesh Dairy Development Department underscore the state’s commitment to leveraging its dairy sector for economic growth and rural development. By focusing on cooperative societies and modernizing practices, the state is setting a benchmark for other regions to follow.
