Telangana's 2.6 million MSMEs urged to adopt cleaner industrial technologies

Telangana's MSME sector, with more than 2.6 million micro, small and medium enterprises, presents a significant opportunity for adopting energy-efficient and cleaner industrial technologies, experts said at the 25th CII Energy Efficiency Summit 2026 held in Hyderabad. The sheer scale of the sector makes technology adoption critical for improving productivity, reducing operating costs and enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises, besides lowering their environmental footprint, they said.

EESL Targets Telangana for Technology Push

The Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under the Ministry of Power, has identified Telangana and the Hyderabad metropolitan region as important destinations for facilitating the adoption of globally proven technologies among MSMEs.

The initiative assumes significance for energy-intensive clusters such as textiles and spinning mills, power looms, printing, pharmaceuticals, granite cutting and slab polishing, where improved energy efficiency and production processes could directly reduce costs. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is implementing its ADEETIE programme to promote energy-efficient technologies in the MSME sector.

Multiple Benefits for Small Enterprises

EESL said such interventions could help MSMEs reduce operation and maintenance costs, improve resource efficiency, generate employment and cut greenhouse-gas emissions, while strengthening their climate resilience. The summit brought together policymakers, industry leaders and experts to deliberate on scaling up energy-efficiency solutions for MSMEs.
