The Traffic Month campaign began in Shamli district on November 1, with the police organising an awareness programme for school students and NCC cadets at the police lines on Sunday. The programme focused on traffic rules and road safety.

Shamli Superintendent of Police NP Singh addressed the students and NCC cadets during the programme. He explained the importance of following traffic rules and urged the students to encourage people around them to wear helmets while riding two-wheelers and use seat belts while driving four-wheelers.

The SP expressed concern over the increasing number of road accidents and deaths caused by them. He said that accidents could be brought under control only by following traffic rules.

School students and NCC cadets took part in the programme organised at the Shamli police lines under the Traffic Month campaign. November is observed across the country as Traffic Month. During the event, Superintendent of Police NP Singh and Additional Superintendent of Police Sumit Shukla informed the students about traffic rules.

The officers explained safe driving practices to the students. They spoke about the importance of wearing helmets, fastening seat belts and following the prescribed rules while travelling on the road. The students were also made aware of the need to follow safety measures while driving or riding vehicles.

NP Singh expressed concern over the continuous deaths in road accidents. Referring to a road accident that took place three days earlier in the Jhinjhana police station area, he said that two youths aged between 18 and 20 years had died on the spot. Serious head injuries were reported to be the main cause of death in the accident.

The SP said that during Traffic Month, the traffic police, along with the local police stations, would run special awareness campaigns on every day of November. The campaign will be conducted from urban areas to rural areas, with people being informed about traffic rules and road safety.

As part of the campaign, two-wheeler riders will be encouraged to wear helmets. Four-wheeler drivers will be encouraged to use seat belts. The police will also spread awareness about the importance of complying with traffic rules in different areas of the district.

The SP said that around 120 people had died in road accidents in Shamli district last month. He added that a decline had been recorded in other criminal incidents. The statement on road accident deaths was made while addressing the students and NCC cadets present at the programme.

NP Singh appealed to the students and NCC cadets to follow traffic rules themselves. He also asked them to make their families, relatives and people living around them aware of the need to follow these rules.

The SP said that such awareness could help prevent deaths in road accidents. The police will continue the special awareness drive during November in coordination with the traffic police and local police stations.
