Career in journalism and politics
A prominent figure in Kerala's media and political circles for decades, Kunhikannan held the distinction of being the first general secretary of the BJP Yuva Morcha in Kerala. He served as Resident Editor of Janmabhoomi, the Bharatiya Janata Party mouthpiece.
He contested Assembly elections as the BJP candidate from the Peravoor and Kannur constituencies. Beyond his editorial role, Kunhikannan served as State vice-president of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists. For many years, he was chairperson of the Kesari Smaraka Journalist Trust.
His appointments extended to several government and regulatory bodies, including the Censor Board, the Telecom Advisory Board, and the Kerala government's journalist accreditation committee.
He is survived by his daughters, Prakula and Manjila.
