SCCL Launches Gold and Copper Exploration in Karnataka's Devadurga Block

Bhadradri Kothagudem: The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has signed an agreement with the Karnataka Department of Mines & Geology (DMG) to initiate the exploration of gold and copper deposits in the Devadurga Block, spanning Raichur and Yadgir districts in Karnataka.

Exploration License Secured Through Auction

The agreement, formalized in Bengaluru on Thursday, follows SCCL’s successful acquisition of an exploration licence for the 199.13 sq. km block through the Government of India’s mineral auction process. SCCL will have a five-year window to complete the exploration work in the area. The agreement was signed by Karnataka DMG Director Rangappa and SCCL Director (Projects & Planning) K. Venkateshwarlu.

A Milestone for SCCL

This marks a significant milestone for SCCL, as it is the first time in its 130-year history that the company is venturing into large-scale mineral exploration outside its home state of Telangana. Mr. Venkateshwarlu highlighted SCCL’s extensive experience in geological surveys and mineral exploration, expressing confidence in the successful completion of the project.

The Devadurga Block exploration represents a strategic move for SCCL as it diversifies its operations beyond coal mining, potentially tapping into lucrative gold and copper reserves.
