Political Turmoil in West Bengal: TMC Faces Internal Rebellion Amid BJP's Strategic Moves

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal is witnessing significant internal strife, with reports suggesting a potential split within the party. Riju Dutta, a former national spokesperson of TMC, has claimed that over 50 MLAs from the party are aligning with him, asserting that they represent the 'original TMC'. This development comes amidst allegations of fake signatures submitted to the Assembly Speaker, further complicating the party's position.

Dutta has stated that the new faction plans to approach the Speaker with three demands: recognition as the authentic TMC, appointment of Ritabrata Banerjee as the opposition leader instead of Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, and ownership of the party's election symbol. With TMC holding 80 MLAs in the Assembly, the faction requires support from at least 54 members to gain official recognition. However, Dutta himself is not an MLA, adding complexity to the claims.

Meanwhile, BJP's alleged strategic focus on West Bengal is raising eyebrows. Reports suggest that the party aims to secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament, with West Bengal playing a crucial role. BJP currently needs 15 more seats in the Rajya Sabha to achieve this majority, and the ongoing turmoil in TMC could potentially benefit their plans.

The situation has also seen allegations of fake signatures on official documents submitted by TMC to the Speaker. Two expelled MLAs, Sandipan Saha and Ritabrata Banerjee, reportedly admitted that their signatures were forged, escalating tensions within the party. The matter is now under investigation by the CID.

As TMC struggles to manage internal dissent, BJP's strategic maneuvers in the state could have significant implications for national politics.
