Police bust drug smuggling ring with 600 narcotic tablets seized at railway station

Arakkonam town police intercepted three Chennai residents carrying 600 narcotic tablets at a railway station and arrested them after a special operation mounted on intelligence inputs received by the district superintendent of police.

The arrested men were identified as K. Subash, 22, V. Elango, 26, and B. Saravanan, 22. Police recovered Tapentadol tablets from their bags during the interception near Arakkonam railway station.

Intelligence-led operation

Ranipet SP P. Sibin had received a tip-off that triggered the formation of special teams to conduct surprise checks across public places including bus termini, railway stations and isolated buildings in the district, initial inquiry revealed. A special police team was conducting a routine check near the railway station when they intercepted the suspects and examined the trio and their bags, leading to the recovery of the narcotic tablets.

Mumbai supply chain

Investigation established that the gang had placed an order for the tablets with pharmacies in Mumbai. The tablets were dispatched to them by couriers. Police said the gang was heading to the railway station to travel to Chennai, where they planned to sell the tablets in retail.

A case was registered, and the arrested persons were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is under way.
