A pleasure boat that had been moored off Hung Hom Promenade for about a month began taking on water and sinking on Saturday afternoon, prompting emergency services to launch a full-scale rescue operation.
Emergency crews were alerted at around 1.36pm after a fisherman working nearby spotted the recreational vessel gradually submerging in the water. Police and firefighters immediately rushed to the scene to respond to the incident.
Fire service divers were deployed to sweep the vessel as it went under. After conducting a thorough search of the submerged hull, rescue personnel confirmed that no one was on board at the time of the sinking.
Investigators found that the vessel had been anchored at that location for approximately a month before it began to sink. Authorities have not yet determined what caused the boat to take on water and submerge.
The incident took place off the Hung Hom Promenade in Hong Kong.
