Unnao commemorates Partition Horrors Remembrance Day with solemn tributes

A solemn event was held in Unnao on August 14 to mark Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, with tributes paid to families who endured the pain of displacement and struggle during the 1947 Partition. Organized at Gurudwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha under the directives of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership, the gathering was spearheaded by BJP district co-treasurer Jasmeet Singh Arora.

The event featured Member of Legislative Council (MLC) and former BJP Uttar Pradesh Vice President Santosh Singh as the chief guest, while Unnao MP Sachidanand Hari Sakshi Maharaj served as the keynote speaker. Addressing attendees, Maharaj reflected on the hardships faced during Partition, emphasizing the need to remember this chapter of history not just as a tribute but as a lesson in sacrifice and dedication to the nation.

Several dignitaries, including BJP district president Anurag Awasthi, Sadar MLA Pankaj Gupta, Bangarmau MLA Shrikant Katiyar, and District Panchayat Chairperson Shakun Singh, joined the event alongside Sikh community members and Gurudwara committee representatives. Families who migrated from Pakistan to India during Partition were honored during the program. Among them were Sardar Jasbir Singh, Sardar Inderjit Singh Arora, Sardar Satwant Singh, and Shrimati Sheelvanti Taneja, who were presented with shawls by MP Sakshi Maharaj and Santosh Singh.

Following the gathering, a silent march was organized from the Gurudwara to the city’s main square. BJP leaders, party workers, Sikh community members, and local residents participated, paying homage to those who lost their lives or suffered displacement during Partition. The march also carried a message of national unity, integrity, and communal harmony.

Concluding the event, Sadar MLA Pankaj Gupta called for strengthening social cohesion and preserving the memories of Partition for future generations. The program aimed to honor the sacrifices of those affected by Partition and inspire the younger generation to uphold the values of resilience and patriotism.
