The Palakkad Railway Division commemorated India’s 80th Independence Day with a series of events at the Divisional Railway Manager’s office in Olavakode on Saturday. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Madhukar Roat hoisted the national flag and reviewed a ceremonial salute in the presence of Additional Divisional Railway Manager Jerin G. Anand, railway officers, and staff. The celebrations also featured cultural performances by students, showcasing the nation’s rich heritage, unity, and diversity.
Tributes and Milestones Highlighted
In his address, DRM Roat paid homage to India’s freedom fighters and emphasized the responsibilities that come with independence, including discipline, integrity, compassion, and dedication to public service. He lauded the division’s notable achievements, including securing the second rank among 69 railway divisions nationwide—its highest position since rankings were introduced.
The division has crossed ₹400 crore in passenger revenue, a significant milestone, alongside improvements in freight operations, passenger amenities, digital ticketing, and grievance redressal mechanisms. Notably, the division has received the Rail Madad Shield for the third consecutive year for its excellence in resolving passenger grievances.
Infrastructure and Safety Initiatives
Mr. Roat also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and passenger safety. These include initiatives to improve sectional speed, eliminate level crossings, and redevelop stations under the Amrit Bharat scheme. Sixteen stations within the division are part of this redevelopment programme, with several projects already completed or inaugurated.
Safety remains a top priority for the division, with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) implementing various initiatives such as Meri Saheli, Operation Amanat, Operation Nanhe Fariste, and Operation Dignity. These programmes focus on passenger safety, lost property recovery, child protection, and the dignity of vulnerable passengers.

Concluding his address, Mr. Roat urged railway personnel to continue striving for a safer, more punctual, passenger-friendly, sustainable, and efficient railway system. Similar Independence Day celebrations were held at major railway stations across the Palakkad division, reinforcing the spirit of unity and service.
