A disaster response and public awareness training programme was organised at BHU Oxford Public School in Mursan, Hathras, on Tuesday under the directions of the District Magistrate. More than 600 students and over 15 teachers took part in the programme, where a 16-member team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Ghaziabad, explained the basics of disaster prevention, relief and rescue operations.

The programme was held at the school located on Sogra-Sadabad Road. It was organised by the District Disaster Management Authority, Hathras, with the cooperation of the District School Inspector. The NDRF team provided information to the students and teachers about the steps to be taken during different types of disasters and emergency situations.

The programme was inaugurated by school director Pradeep Kumar Sharma. It was conducted by principal Sakshi Varshney. She said that a seven-day training programme was being organised in the district through the NDRF team. As part of this programme, training was conducted at the school to increase awareness among students and teachers about disaster management.

She said the training was aimed at helping them remain alert and take appropriate steps during emergency situations. The programme focused on the importance of preparedness and on the need to respond carefully when a disaster occurs.

During the training, the NDRF team explained ways to deal with natural, chemical, biological, nuclear and man-made disasters. The participants were given detailed information about what should be done and what should be avoided during earthquakes, floods, electrical accidents and other emergency situations.

The team explained that correct information, quick decision-making and caution during a disaster can help reduce the loss of human life, animal life and property to a considerable extent. The students and teachers were told about the importance of following the right safety measures during such situations.

The NDRF members also provided practical training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, with the help of a dummy model. They demonstrated the process of giving CPR and explained the methods used to safely remove an injured person or someone trapped in a crisis situation.

The team also briefed the participants about the precautions that must be taken during rescue operations. Students practised on the dummy model and participated in the training with enthusiasm. Through the practical exercises, they learnt techniques that can be useful during a disaster or other emergency.

More than 600 students and over 15 teachers participated in the programme. The District Disaster Management Authority, Hathras, was also represented by the district disaster expert, accountant, computer operator and other concerned personnel.
