A human kidney was transported by Namma Metro from Jalappa Hospital in Kolar to Fortis Hospital in Nagarabhavi, Bengaluru, completing the journey between Benniganahalli and Attiguppe stations in 37 minutes on Friday, October 30.

The transfer was arranged to support a medical procedure that required the organ to reach the destination on time.

According to a press release issued by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), the kidney was brought aboard a metro train at Benniganahalli station at 2.58 p.m.

The train reached Attiguppe station at 3.35 p.m., after which the kidney could be transferred for the procedure.

BMRCL coordinated with hospitals

“Recognising the critical importance of time in organ transportation, BMRCL coordinated with the healthcare institutions and made the necessary arrangements to facilitate the journey,” the release stated.

The operation required coordination between the metro corporation and the healthcare institutions involved in the kidney’s movement.

The transfer adds to Namma Metro’s record of supporting the movement of organs for medical treatment.

With Friday’s kidney transfer, Namma Metro has facilitated seven organ transportation operations so far, according to the release.

These operations include one liver, four hearts and one pair of lungs, in addition to the latest kidney transfer.

The details were published on October 30, 2026, at 08:30 pm IST.
