Police in Morena have seized illegal firecrackers worth around Rs 65,000 in two separate raids and arrested two shop operators. The action was carried out in Civil Lines and Mata Basaiya police station areas as part of intensified efforts to stop the illegal sale and storage of firecrackers during the Diwali festival.

The police said firecrackers were being sold by using grocery shops as a cover. In both cases, the material had been stored on the roofs of houses or shops, as well as on a roof awning, and was being sold from residential premises.

Rs 55,000 worth of firecrackers seized from New Housing Board Colony

The first action was taken by Civil Lines police in New Housing Board Colony. According to the police, illegal firecrackers had been stored on the roof of a grocery shop.

The shop operator was allegedly selling the firecrackers kept on the roof. Police reached the spot and carried out a raid. Firecrackers worth around Rs 55,000 were recovered and seized during the action.

The shop operator was arrested in the case, police said.

Firecrackers stored on house roof in Bichauli village

The second action was carried out by Mata Basaiya police in Bichauli village. Police said a shop operator had kept firecrackers on the roof of a house and was selling them from there.

During the raid, police recovered firecrackers worth around Rs 10,000. The investigation found that there were no valid documents or licence related to the storage and sale of the firecrackers.

The firecrackers were seized, and the accused was arrested, according to the police.

Police monitoring illegal storage in residential areas

Additional SP Surendra Pal Singh said that illegal storage of firecrackers during Diwali could lead to fire incidents or other accidents. Storing firecrackers without permission inside houses and in residential areas is dangerous, he said.

The two actions were carried out in separate police station areas in view of the risks linked to such storage and sale, according to the police.

The police said the campaign against people involved in the illegal storage and sale of firecrackers would continue.
