A patwari was arrested red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of 7,000 rupees in Morena district during an operation by the Gwalior Lokayukta team.
According to the information, the patwari had allegedly demanded 40,000 rupees from a farmer for carrying out the demarcation of 2 bighas of his land. The farmer had already paid 5,000 rupees, but the demand for more money allegedly continued.
Distressed by the repeated demand, the farmer approached the Lokayukta and filed a complaint. Acting on the complaint, the Gwalior Lokayukta team first verified the allegations. After the complaint was found to be correct, the team planned an operation to catch the patwari while accepting the bribe.
Farmer had applied for land demarcation
The farmer, Murarilal Kushwah, a resident of Muraina Gaon Ka Pura, had submitted an application at the tehsildar’s office for the demarcation of his 2-bigha land.
It was alleged that Mauja Patwari Pradeep Sharma demanded 40,000 rupees from the farmer in exchange for carrying out the demarcation process. The farmer had already handed over 5,000 rupees to the patwari. Despite this payment, he was allegedly asked to pay more.
The continuing demand for money led the farmer to contact the Lokayukta SP office in Gwalior. After receiving the complaint and verifying the matter, the Lokayukta team prepared to take action.
Caught in RI chamber
As planned, the farmer reached the tehsil office with the bribe money on Tuesday afternoon. Pradeep Sharma was sitting in the RI chamber when the farmer handed him 7,000 rupees.
The Lokayukta team, which was already present at the spot, immediately caught the patwari. The team arrested Pradeep Sharma red-handed and started further action in the case.
