Meituan rider flies to Singapore for curry puffs to deliver in China

A food delivery rider flew from China to Singapore to buy curry puffs for a customer back home, turning a routine order into an international expedition that has captured social media attention.

The rider, dressed in a Meituan uniform, was spotted at Hong Lim Curry Puff in PLQ Mall, located approximately 17 minutes by car from Changi Airport. Meituan is among China's largest food delivery platforms.

Customer craving drives cross-border run

The unusual delivery was commissioned by a Chinese business owner who had tasted the shop's curry puffs during an earlier visit to Singapore and wanted them again, according to the rider. The customer placed the order through Meituan to satisfy the craving.

Chloe, a Chinese woman living in Singapore, filmed the rider and shared the video on August 31 after noticing he was struggling to communicate with shop staff. When she approached to help, he explained he was fulfilling a "cross-border order".

The incident has sparked widespread curiosity online, with the founder of Hong Lim Curry Puff noting that the unique order showcases the city state's rich flavours to an international audience.

The episode highlights the lengths some customers will go to recreate food experiences from their travels, though it remains unclear whether flying a rider across borders represents a new service model or a one-off indulgence.
