Director M Padmakumar Returns to Crime Genre with ‘Uyir’, Featuring Roshan Mathew as a Determined Young Officer

Renowned Malayalam filmmaker M Padmakumar, known for acclaimed films such as *Joseph*, *Shikkar*, *Vargam*, and *Vasthavam*, is set to revisit the investigative crime drama genre with his upcoming film *Uyir*.

The second-look poster of *Uyir* has been unveiled, featuring the tagline, "When everyone looks away, one man digs deeper." The film stars Roshan Mathew as Sub-Inspector Ajeeb, a probationary officer stationed at Dharmadam Police Station in Kannur. Based on real-life events, the thriller follows Ajeeb's relentless pursuit of truth as he navigates a challenging investigation.

Produced by Santhosh Trivikraman under the WOW Cinemas banner, *Uyir* will be distributed theatrically by Century Films. The screenplay and dialogues have been crafted by Nikhil K. Menon and Shaji Marad. While Menon is known for his work as a singer and actor in television, Marad brings authentic law-enforcement experience, having co-written the internationally acclaimed *Ela Veezha Poonchira*. Their collaboration aims to infuse the narrative with realism and depth.

The film boasts an ensemble cast, including veteran actor Baiju Santhosh in a significant police role. Supporting roles are played by Vineeth Thattil, Divya M. Nair, Santhosh Trivikraman, Shaju Sreedhar, Sreekanth Murali, Vinod Sagar, Athulya Chandra, and Shruthy Menon. Bollywood actors Saiyami Kher and Mahesh Shetty also feature in pivotal cameo appearances.

Shot across diverse locations such as Coorg, Thalassery, Palakkad, Kochi, and Mumbai, the film’s varied settings are expected to enhance its investigative atmosphere and visual appeal. Ajay David Kachappilly, known for his work in *Porinju Mariam Jose* and *Garudan*, handles cinematography, while Manikandan Ayyappa is in charge of music and background score. Editing is overseen by Ranjan Abraham.

The film’s music takes a multilingual approach, with Malayalam lyrics by Shibu Chakravarthy and Santhosh Varma, Tamil verses by Niranjan Bharathi—a descendant of legendary poet Subramania Bharati—and Kannada lyrics by Umesh Pilikkudelu. Renowned playback singer K. S. Chithra has recorded three songs for the soundtrack, adding to the anticipation.

The creative team also includes production designer Saburam, promo song composer Charles Nazareth, makeup artist P. V. Shankar, costume designer Aysha Shafeer Sait, stunt choreographer Thavasi Raj, sound designer Arun Verma, VFX supervisor Sharath Vinu, and public relations officer Aparna Girish. Together, they aim to deliver a gripping and authentic investigative thriller.
