Literary Seminar in Tiruvalla Reappraises Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri’s Poetic Legacy

Seminar explores the literary legacy of Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri

A literary seminar focusing on the study and reappraisal of the poetic world of Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri was held at Tiruvalla on Saturday.

During the inauguration, poet Prabha Varma described Namboothiri as a major poet who took the richness of Keralam’s literary tradition to a global audience through modern perspectives. K.P. Ramanunni, convener of the Sahitya Akademi advisory committee, presided over the function.

Writers and cultural figures attend

Central Sahitya Akademi Secretary Varun Gulati delivered the introductory address at the seminar. Kannada writer Jayanth Kaikini delivered the keynote address. Filmmaker and Kazhcha Charitable Trust chairman Blessy attended the event as the chief guest.

MLA Varghese Mamman offered felicitations and honoured the family of Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri. A documentary on the poet was also screened as part of the seminar.

The programme combined critical engagement with Namboothiri’s poetry, addresses by literary figures and a documentary screening. The event’s focus on reappraising his work and its place in Keralam’s literary tradition reflected the stated aim of examining his poetic contribution through the seminar.
