KTU Syndicate decides against approving proposal for Pro Vice-Cha

The APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University Syndicate has refused to clear Vice Chancellor Ciza Thomas’s recommendation for appointing a Pro Vice-Chancellor, choosing instead to seek legal advice on the appointment process.

Proposal placed before Syndicate

The decision came after the V-C reportedly included a proposal on the agenda of Thursday’s Syndicate meeting to appoint Biju, a retired Professor of the Mar Athanasius College of Engineering, Kothamangalam, as the PV-C.

The Syndicate did not approve the recommendation because members pointed to a requirement in the university statute that a panel of candidates be submitted for the appointment, rather than a single name.

According to the source, the V-C was not prepared to submit a panel of names before the Syndicate.

With that, the Syndicate decided against approving the recommendation and opted to seek legal advice on how the appointment process should proceed.
