The Excise department's Ernakulam wing has seized 305.396 grams of suspected MDMA and arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with alleged drug sales to IT professionals and college students across the district.
Arrest at Mattancherry
Shifas A.S., also known as Bappu, a resident of Panayappilly in Mattancherry, was arrested from his rented apartment at Mattancherry. The Excise also recovered ₹2,90,000, allegedly gained through drug sales, and a mobile phone from the accused.
The arrest was carried out following information gathered by the Excise Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, the agency said. Kochi Excise Circle Inspector Prasanth. R. led the operation.

Investigators suspect Shifas was involved in selling the synthetic drugs to IT professionals and college students in different parts of Ernakulam district.
Recent trend
This marks the second major case in recent weeks. In August, the agency had arrested four youths with 281 grams of suspected MDMA in two related cases. A special investigation team is conducting a probe into that case.
