Karnataka Cabinet Approves Two Bengaluru Reservoirs At ₹61.5 Crore
Karnataka Cabinet approves two Bengaluru reservoirs with 72 ML capacity at Rs 61.5 crore, plus a GIS master plan and sewage treatment plant.
Bengaluru to get two reservoirs
The State Cabinet on Thursday approved the construction of two water reservoirs in Bengaluru at a combined cost of ₹61.50 crore, Bengaluru City Development Minister Krishna Byregowda told mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting.
The projects are intended to strengthen the city’s water supply infrastructure and add storage capacity in two areas.
Reservoirs at Kaval Byrasandra and Banashankari
The first reservoir will be built at Kaval Byrasandra with a capacity of 50 million litres, or 50 ML.
The project has been approved at a cost of ₹22.50 crore and is expected to benefit approximately 72,000 people, Mr. Byregowda said.
The second reservoir will be constructed in the Banashankari area.
It will have a capacity of 22 million litres, or 22 ML, and will cost ₹39 crore.
The additional storage capacity is expected to improve water distribution, according to the details of the Cabinet decision.
The two projects together account for the ₹61.50 crore approved for the reservoirs.
GIS-based master plan
The Cabinet also decided to grant ₹16.60 crore for preparing a Geographic Information System-based master plan for Bengaluru and its surrounding urban areas.
Mr. Gowda said the initiative is intended to support scientific and integrated urban planning.
The planning exercise comes in the context of rapid urban expansion, population growth and increasing pressure on infrastructure, he said.
The project will involve collecting geographical data and studying road connectivity, urban expansion and land use.
It will also prepare information required for urban planning and infrastructure development.
Sewage treatment plant
The Cabinet separately approved a sewage treatment plant at Charakanahalli with a capacity of 10 million litres per day, or 10 MLD.
The plant will be constructed at a cost of ₹51.37 crore.
Mr. Gowda said the project aims to strengthen Bengaluru’s sewage management infrastructure and address the growing volume of wastewater generated in the area.
The existing system includes a 40-MLD treatment facility.
The new plant is intended to augment the existing treatment capacity.
