IAF Chief A.P. Singh Visits Vietnam to Strengthen Defence Ties

Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, arrived in Hanoi on Monday, August 3, 2026, for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening defence cooperation between India and Vietnam. Upon arrival, he met with India’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Tshering W. Sherpa, who briefed him on the evolving bilateral relationship ahead of his formal engagements.

Talks Focus on Air Domain Cooperation

The Indian Air Force chief received a ceremonial welcome from the Air Defence–Air Force Service of the Vietnam People’s Army before engaging in bilateral talks with Lieutenant-General Vu Hong Son, the service’s commander. Discussions centered on reviewing the progress of ongoing defence initiatives and identifying new opportunities for collaboration, particularly in the air domain. Both sides emphasized their commitment to deepening military ties as part of their broader strategic partnership.

Strategic Convergence in the Indo-Pacific

This visit highlights the growing strategic alignment between India and Vietnam, especially in the context of the Indo-Pacific region. The two nations have been enhancing their defence relationship under the framework of an “enhanced comprehensive strategic partnership.” Recently, India’s Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh confirmed the signing of a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile deal with Vietnam, further cementing their defence cooperation.

Air Chief Marshal Singh’s visit is expected to reinforce the momentum in bilateral ties and explore new avenues for collaboration in the face of evolving regional challenges.
