Hong Kong police arrest man after hidden cameras found in gym changing rooms

A 34-year-old local man remained in custody after Hong Kong police arrested him in Sha Tin in connection with the installation of three suspected pinhole cameras found in changing rooms at a gym.

Arrest follows suspected voyeurism investigation

The arrest took place on Sunday, a day after police launched an investigation into a suspected voyeurism case at the 24/7 Fitness branch on Lek Yuen Street.

A police spokesman said officers arrested the suspect, described as a local man, in Sha Tin.

He remained in custody as investigations continued, according to the spokesman.

Police had been alerted on Friday after a suspected pinhole camera was found attached with black tape to the false ceiling of a changing room in the fitness centre.

Three changing rooms searched

A subsequent search uncovered three suspected pinhole cameras in total in three separate changing rooms at the branch.

Police said the case was linked to a suspected voyeurism investigation at the 24/7 Fitness branch in Sha Tin.

The suspected devices were found inside changing rooms, making the discovery significant because the investigation concerns alleged covert filming in a private area of the fitness centre.

Police have not announced further details beyond the arrest, the suspect remaining in custody, and the continuing investigation.
