Henry Cavill Filming Highlander in Hong Kong's Neon Nostalgia Scene

British actor Henry Cavill drew large crowds in Hong Kong’s Central district on Thursday night as he filmed scenes for the upcoming Highlander movie. The set, located on Peel Street, transported onlookers to a bygone era with its recreation of the city’s iconic neon signs and outdoor dai pai dong hawker stalls, evoking memories of old Hong Kong.

Peel Street Transformed for Futuristic Scene

Peel Street, a popular nightlife hub blending modern and traditional elements, was completely transformed for the shoot. Film crews erected a mix of authentic and replica neon signs, along with hawker stalls and even a temple, to set the stage for a scene that appeared to take place during New Year celebrations in the year 2040. Despite the futuristic setting, the design paid homage to Hong Kong’s visual history, which has been gradually disappearing as neon signage fades from the cityscape.

Cavill Brings Star Power to the Set

Cavill, best known for his roles as Superman and Geralt in The Witcher, was spotted wearing a thick leather jacket despite Hong Kong’s record-breaking heat. Dozens of extras, dressed in festive hats and accessories, were also seen on set, adding to the celebratory atmosphere of the scene. Fans gathered in large numbers to catch a glimpse of the actor, whose presence added to the buzz surrounding the production.

A Reboot of a Cult Classic

The new Highlander film, directed by Chad Stahelski of John Wick fame, is a reboot of the 1986 cult classic. The original movie followed the story of an immortal warrior locked in centuries-long battles against rivals in deadly duels. Cavill’s involvement in the project was announced earlier, generating significant excitement among fans of the fantasy-action genre.

This blend of Hollywood star power and nostalgic set design has not only reignited interest in the Highlander franchise but also reminded Hong Kong residents of the city’s rich cultural heritage.
