Gatti's stoppage-time header salvages draw as Juventus holds Milan unbeaten

Federico Gatti powered home a header two minutes into stoppage time to salvage a 1-1 draw for Juventus against AC Milan at the Allianz Stadium, preserving both sides' unbeaten starts to the Serie A season.

The defender's late intervention denied Ruben Amorim's Milan a statement victory after substitute Alphadjo Cissè had put the visitors ahead in the 69th minute with their first shot on target, finishing against the run of play.

Juventus Dominate but Fail to Convert

The hosts controlled long stretches of the contest without finding a breakthrough. Nicolas González tested Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan from 30 yards inside the opening 10 minutes, with the keeper punching clear. Francisco Conceição then cut in from the right and forced another save from Maignan, but Manuel Locatelli could not convert the rebound into an empty net.

The pattern continued after the interval. Conceição came closest when his 20-yard strike cannoned off the post, letting Milan escape. Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti had spoken before kick-off about the importance of players coming off the bench, noting that "we will then have another five players who will come on and be decisive".

Milan Strike Against the Flow

That prediction proved accurate for the visitors. Substitute Samuel Chukwueze surged forward and found Cissè, who cut inside and bent his finish past Vicario to silence the Turin crowd. The goal came entirely against the flow of play, with Milan having offered little attacking threat throughout the evening.

Juventus had the momentum knocked from them but continued pressing for an equaliser. Their persistence paid off when Teun Koopmeiners delivered a cross onto Gatti's head for the leveller deep into added time.

Perfect Starts Preserved

Both teams had won their opening two fixtures of the Serie A campaign, with Juventus sitting fourth and Milan third, each on six points. Juventus had beaten Parma and Frosinone without conceding, while Milan recorded a 2-1 victory over Torino and a 2-0 home win against Venezia.

The result extended a recent pattern between these storied rivals. In their last 10 meetings, Milan won three, Juventus two, with five draws, including four goalless stalemates. The match kicked off at 23:45 on 06 September.
