Formula E Champions Sustainability with Community Initiatives at Sanya E-Prix

Formula E has returned to Sanya, China, for Round 11 of its championship, bringing not only the excitement of all-electric racing but also a strong commitment to sustainability and community impact. The Lianxin Sanya E-Prix is showcasing a range of initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impact and promoting positive change.

The event is powered by a resilient energy mix that combines local grid energy with HVO fuel, eliminating the need for standard fossil fuels in on-site operations. This approach is designed to minimise operational emissions while maintaining the high energy demands of the race.

In line with its sustainability mission, Formula E has adopted a circular economy model by renting assets instead of manufacturing new ones. This includes Fan Village furniture, interactive games, and Kids' Area activations, which help reduce waste and keep entertainment hardware in circulation.

Additionally, Formula E has launched 'Green Link Sanya', a youth-led STEM initiative that empowers local students to become climate advocates. The programme incorporates smart technology and composting infrastructure to cut community food waste by at least 20%, while encouraging over 500 residents to embrace sustainable practices.

The Sanya Community Tour, another key initiative, integrates the FIA Girls on Track framework to provide an immersive motorsport experience for 250 local youth and their parents. The programme ensures gender-balanced participation, breaking barriers in the traditionally male-dominated world of motorsport.

The Sanya E-Prix weekend begins with free practice sessions on Friday, culminating in the Round 11 race on Saturday, 20 June, at 3:05 pm local time. Drivers and teams are preparing to tackle the challenging conditions in Sanya, where temperatures remain above 30°C. With seven races left in the season, Jaguar TCS Racing's Mitch Evans leads the drivers' standings, followed closely by reigning champion Oliver Rowland of Nissan.

Formula E's return to Sanya underscores its dual focus on thrilling competition and meaningful environmental and social initiatives, setting a benchmark for sustainable motorsport.
