Tumram Priya, once a flight attendant, now manages personnel and vehicles at an office near an opencast coal mine in a remote, forested corner of Telangana. The 27-year-old is also familiar with handling controlled explosives.

From the skies to a mining office

For three-and-a-half years, Priya’s working day began with meticulous grooming, a crisp uniform and preparations for work in the skies. As a flight attendant, she checked safety arrangements and ensured passengers’ comfort.

Her current role places her near a coal mine, where she handles personnel and vehicles and works in an environment involving controlled explosives. Priya is a commerce graduate.

“My father, Jaganath, worked for the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and took voluntary retirement due to health issues. I subsequently got the job under the dependent quota,” she says.
