Doctor Known for Charity Work and Privacy Now Accused of Murder

New Delhi: The arrest of dermatologist Manish Gupta for allegedly murdering his domestic help has left the residents of south Delhi’s Mount Kailash in shock. Gupta is accused of bludgeoning and stabbing the victim to death, a crime that has baffled his neighbors and acquaintances.

Several friends and patients had reportedly noticed unusual changes in Gupta’s behavior in the days leading up to the incident. Described as withdrawn and acting strangely, this behavior had persisted for three to four days prior to the alleged crime. Some close associates mentioned that Gupta might have been undergoing treatment for depression, though they were unaware of the details, as he rarely discussed his personal life.

Gupta, who had lived in Mount Kailash for nearly 15 years with his wife and teenage son, was known to be reserved, polite, and private. Neighbors noted that he gave little indication that anything was wrong. “Like any other resident here, he would smile or greet you. He mostly kept to himself,” said Varun Gupta, a fellow resident.

A respected professional, Gupta had built a career spanning over two decades. After completing his MBBS in Jaipur, he underwent specialized training in dermatology in Delhi and worked with several healthcare institutions over the years.

The incident has left many in the community grappling with disbelief, as the man they knew for his quiet demeanor and charitable contributions now faces such serious allegations.
